Beyond the Pink Walls: 3 Unforgettable Day Trips

Extend your royal adventure with these perfect day excursions, from the world's deepest stepwell to the mystical, holy city of Pushkar.

Once you have explored the main forts and bazaars of Jaipur, you might think you have seen it all. But some of Rajasthan's most incredible sights are located just a short drive outside the city limits. Booking a private cab for the day opens up a whole new world.

1. Chand Baori in Abhaneri (90 km away)

Located about a two-hour drive east of Jaipur, Chand Baori is one of the deepest and largest stepwells in the world. Built in the 9th century, it features 3,500 narrow steps arranged in perfect, dizzying symmetry descending 13 stories into the earth.

Looking down into Chand Baori feels like staring into an architectural optical illusion. It is a masterpiece of mathematics and stone.

2. The Holy City of Pushkar (145 km away)

A three-hour drive brings you to Pushkar, one of the oldest existing cities in India. Built around a sacred, tranquil lake, the town is famous for housing the world's only dedicated Brahma Temple. The vibe here is completely different from Jaipur—it is deeply spiritual, bohemian, and beautifully slow. Do not miss the mesmerizing sunset aarti (prayer ceremony) at the lake's ghats, where chanting fills the evening air.

3. The Ruins of Bhangarh Fort (80 km away)

Are you looking for a thrill? Bhangarh is officially recognized as the most haunted place in India, and visitors are legally banned by the government from entering the premises between sunset and sunrise. Even if you don't believe in ghosts, the sprawling, overgrown 17th-century ruins set against the lonely backdrop of the Aravalli hills make for an incredibly atmospheric and photogenic day trip.
